URI Pharmacy Professor Convicted Of Filling Fake Prescriptions
An assistant professor in the URI Pharmacy School was found guilty in federal court on Thursday.
KINGSTON, RI — An assistant professor at the University of Rhode Island was found guilty of approving fake prescriptions in federal court on Thursday. Michelle Caetano Thomas faced two felony charges for her involvement with the New England Compounding Center, a former pharmacy in Framingham, Massachusetts.
According to The Providence Journal, Caetano Thomas approved shipments of prescriptions for patients that were obviously fake with names like "LL Bean" and "Coco Puff." She and another pharmacist were found guilty on Thursday.
Caetano Thomas left her job at the NECC in 2012 to take her current job at URI, The Providence Journal continued. The university did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
