VIDEO: Seaview Marketplace Prepares For Irene
Seaview Marketplace in Matunuck boarded up its windows Friday afternoon in preparation of Hurricane Irene.

Dan Saber, owner of Seaview Marketplace in Matunuck, boarded up the windows on the front of his store Friday afternoon in preparation of Hurricane Irene.
“We’re just boarding up and hoping for the best,” said Saber as he screwed in another sheet of plywood.
Seaview Marketplace has been in operation for 14 years, but has never had to weather a storm of these proportions. Saber said he has had the plywood for years, but never needed to put it up until now.

Saber intends to keep the store open throughout the weekend if possible, so that locals can come get necessary supplies. “We plan on being open as long as we can, as long as there’s power,” said Saber. “I have tons of water, bread. I had 150 cases of water come in. We’re in pretty good shape.”
He plans to keep the plywood up over the windows for the remainder of hurricane season. “I think I’ll just paint ‘open’ on the boards so people know,” said Saber. “I have to turn the lights on anyway, so it’s not a problem for me. It beats having to put them back up again if we get another storm.”
