Washington County Legislators Sign Letters Opposing Railway Corridor
All the state's Washington County representatives have signed letters to U.S. Sen. Jack Reed and to the federal Railroad agency.

NARRAGANSETT, RI — The letters, which were signed by every Washington County state representative and senator, ask the federal Railroad Administration and the Congressional delegation (U.S. Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Cong. James Langevin) and the governor to help find alternatives to the Old Saybrook-Kenyon bypass planned to cut through Connecticut and Rhode Island.
According to the letter, the bypass goes through wetlands, farmland, aquifers and other sensitive areas.
"There are quality of life implications, environmental threats and historic preservation concerns," the letters say.
