Balfour Beatty Communities Collects for the Ronald McDonald House of Providence

Over the past year, Balfour Beatty Communities NAVSTA Newport has been collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House of Providence.  The Ronald McDonald House collects these tabs as a way to raise funds for their various homes across the nation.  In Providence, the Ronald McDonald House provides a temporary home for families with children that are hospitalized in Hasbro Children’s and Rhode Island Hospitals.  According to their website, they also provide “support that comes from being able to talk and share concerns with other parents going through similarly difficult situations.”

One may ask, “Why does Balfour Beatty Communities NAVSTA Newport collect these pop tabs?”  Balfour Beatty Communities has an extensive LifeWorks Program at each site where they encourage residents to participate in various activities that are built around seven core areas.  One of these core areas is community service, and we want to do something to give back to the community that would be practical and easy for everyone of all ages to participate in for many years.  These tabs are very easy to store; much more sanitary that collecting the whole can; and most people have these in their homes.  The Ronald McDonald House of Providence has a goal of collecting 10 million pop tabs in 2013, and we want to help them reach that goal!

Last month, Taelor Washington delivered five pint sized bags of tabs to one of the drop off locations in Hasbro Children’s Hospital.  Taelor is the daughter of Yvette Thompson, who is the Finance Specialist at Balfour Beatty Communities NAVSTA Newport.  We appreciate her delivering the tabs, and are excited to help the Ronald McDonald House of Providence reach their 10 million pop tab goal.
