For the Birds: Uncork your Inner Bobby Soxer at the Wings and Wheels Bird Ball

Classic cars, good food and drinks, supporting the Norman Bird Sanctuary. Need an outfit idea? They made a Pintrest board.

Bird and cars go together quite naturally. Ford Falcon. AMC Eagle. Buick Skylark. Plymouth Roadrunner.

The pairing also lands here on Aquidneck Island on Aug. 15. The Norman Bird Sanctuary brings the wings, the Audrain Automobile Museum brings the wheels, and together, they’ve created the Wings and Wheels Bird Ball 2015.

It’s the 10th anniversary ”Bird Ball” and it presents an evening of food, drinks and entertainment along with an array of classic cars joining the party. With 50s-inspired decor, incredible views of nature and Blackstone Caterers putting out the spread, it’s time to unlock your inner James Dean or Marilyn Monroe.

Tickets are on sale now for the event, which supports the Norman Bird Sanctuary as they carry out their mission to preserve habitat and offer a sanctuary to many species of birds. Like the people of Aquidneck Island, some live here year round, others are snowbirds and then there are the visitors who stop for brief visit. If we give up land for hotels, why not save some space for flying friends, too?

A ticket enters you into the raffle for one of three prizes. Third place earns a clam bake for six delivered by McGrath clambakes. Second prize is an hour-and-a-half charter on the 101-foot Aurora for up to 68 of your friends.

Grand prize is a two night stay for up to 16 people at Paradise farmhouse.

You’ll also get a catered cocktail party, passes to the Audrain Automobile Museum and the International Tennis Hall of Fame Museum. And court time on the historic courts. If that’s not enough, you’ll be going home heavy handed with gift baskets of wine and cheese, chocolate, coffee, pastries and more from local businesses.
