Broadway Construction Focuses on Sidewalks this Week
Work is moving forward slowly but surely in the Broadway streetscape project.

After Labor Day weekend, it’s back to work for construction crews on Broadway as the lengthy streetscape project steams along.
This week, daytime closures of Spring Street from Bull Street to Broadway will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. following the existing detour.
Construction will affect parking during working hours but detours will be removed and parking will be restored by the end of each workday, the DOT said.

“We will focus on final grading, placement, and finishing of sidewalks and driveways on the East side of the project, from Spring Street to Cranston Avenue,” the DOT said in a news release.
The DOT is in the process of rebuilding the roadway and overhauling sidewalks and pedestrian infrastructure.

Among the changes will be widened sidewalks in some areas, new landscaping, light fixtures, road striping, signals and a switch from parallel to head-in parking in areas that aren’t head-in already.
Cardi Corporation holds the $5.8 million contract.
Funding for the project was made possible through federal sources, including Safe Routes to School, in addition to the Rhode Island Municipal Road and Bridge Revolving Fund.
