Friends of Pop Flack Tennis to Honor Recently Departed Tennis Players

Along with a memorial ceremony, a special plaque will be unveiled at the Pop Flack Tennis Courts on Sept. 7.

The Friends of Pop Flack Tennis have invited city officials, tennis players and friends and family of the recently departed to gather at the Aquidneck Park ”Pop Flack” Tennis Courts on King Street on Sept. 7 to remember and pay respect.

The celebration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the flags of both the United States and Canada will be raised before words are shared to acknowledge the occasion, according to a city news release.

The occasion will also mark the unveiling of a new bronze plaque to commemorate the Paskle “Pop Flack” Memorial Tennis Courts’ 1995 Restoration Project.

Those honored will be: ; George Brenner, Bill Boatwright, Frank Maguire, Edward Hole, Frank Faulkner, Jack Ferber, William Murphy Sr., Manley DeAscentis, Arthur DeAscentis, Jimmy Ring, Al Iandolo, Charlie Oxx, Bud Turano, Dorothy Turano, Dave Jenkins, John Martin, Jimmy Martland, Frank Kenny, Charlie Dwyer, Tom Fleming, Terry Burns, Rachel Kilroy.

The public is invited to the event.
