STAGERightRI & Heydt Re-Creations – Call for Re-Actors
STAGERightRI and Newport artist William Heydt are re-creating another historic painting to be a continuation of the “Newportant People Series” Historic Edition. Heydt and STAGERightRI recently collaborated on the re-creation of the John Trumbull painting “Declaration of Independence” on July 4th of this year at the Old Colony House that portrayed twelve direct descendents of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. The painting is on display at Jonathan’s Cafe at 22 Washington Square along with some sketches that Heydt did that day.
This next re-created painting is titled “Sea Captains Carousing in Surinam”, ca. 1752-1758 by John Greenwood. This painting depicted sea captains drinking it up in the country of Surinam. The painting will be staged in the White Horse Tavern “America’s Oldest Tavern” on November 16th at 11am. In the painting is:

What makes the STAGERightRI & Heydt re-creations unique is they include descendents of the people in the paintings. STAGERightRI is casting descendents and others who wish to be involved in this re-creation. Descendents of Stephen Hopkins, Joseph Wanton, or Capt. Nicholas Cooke are encouraged to contact STAGERightRI. This painting has almost 30 men in it that are revolutionary era sea captains, a couple of women and several slaves.
There is another painting being planned for next August that will be re-creating the painting “Battle of Rhode Island” by David R. Wagner. This painting will be re-created on the actual day of the battle, August 29th, on the exact battle field, Butts Hill, with descendents of those who fought in the battle. We are looking for production volunteers, researchers, historians, costumes and people to make costumes, make-up and hair people and much more.
If you are a direct descendent and would like to portray your ancestors in this painting or if you think you would just like to be involved with the next or any re-creation please contact us Tom C. Erb at 401-207-4812, or email at Tom@STAGERightRI.com.
