Workshop: Update on the Combined Sewer Overflow Problem

The Alliance for a Livable Newport presents its 37th public forum:  "The Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Problem: Update."

The Environmental Protection Agency consent agreement [as yet unsigned by Newport] requires that CSOs at the Wellington and Washington pumping station be reduced to zero.

Borrowing of almost $40,000,000 has been committed to this effort in the past three fiscal years.

There has been no report on performance results. Three Workshops have covered plans and timetables.

Who's accountable?

The CSO Forum will review:

Water quality at Easton's Beach and in Newport Harbor based on sampling by Clean Ocean Access and the City of Newport.
The upcoming re-opening of King's Beach.
Test results/actual usage from the new UV treatment plant at Easton's beach.
CSO reduction performance measurement - The number of CSO events caused by 1/2" of rainfall or more: 2000 - to date.
CSO projects completed and planned.
Capital costs of these projects.
Next steps.

Hear from experts and those directly involved including Julia Forgue, Director of Utilities, consultants from CH2M HILL, David McLaughlin and John McCain.

Plan to attend and learned how your water/sewer bills will be heavily impacted by these issues into the foreseeable future.
