Gas Prices Start To Level Off In Rhode Island

Rhode Island gas prices went up an average of three cents per gallon over the past week, a relief after weeks of steep price hikes.

After weeks of sharp climbs, gas prices in Rhode Island have slightly evened out over the past week, rising three cents per gallon on average. The average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded gas now costs $2.86. Rhode Island is just three cents below the national average of $2.89 and one cent lower than the price this time last year.

"While fuel demand remains robust, gasoline inventories built for the first time since early February and contributed to more modest increases than we saw the week before when prices were up double digits," said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs.

Across the state, prices range 30 cents from a low of $2.69 to a high of $2.99.
