Last Chance to Get Rid of Old Trash and Recycling Bins
Newport is hosting one final "Bye-Bye Bin and Barrel" event.

The Newport Public Services Department’s Clean City Program will hold the final Bye-Bye Bins & Barrels recycling event to help residents recycle unwanted recycling bins & trash barrels. The last event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 from 8 a.m. until noon at Easton’s Beach in the east parking lot.
“Almost 600 cars came through to recycle 12.57 tons of plastics and purchase 35 compost bins at the first event earlier this month,” said Kristin Littlefield, the City of Newport’s Clean City Coordinator. “We’re hoping to see more residents come out to the final event.”
The City of Newport started a new cart-based collection system during the week of November 3, 2014. All trash and recycling must be put out in the city-issued carts and bulky waste requires a pre-paid sticker in order to be picked up.

Residents are encouraged to reuse recycling bins for storage and barrels for yard waste, if possible. Yard waste barrels will no longer have to be labeled as such going forward.
Also during the Bye-Bye Bins & Barrels recycling events, the Clean City Program will be offering compost bins for $20, more than half off our regular price of $45, which is also discounted from a retail value of $100. This program is offered to help residents further reduce their weekly trash generation and create finished compost that can be used in their gardens. Newport residents must call the Clean City Program at 845-5613 to pre-order their $20 compost bin to pick up at one of the Bye-Bye Bins & Barrels events. Proof of Newport residency is required to pick up your discounted compost bin.
