Limited 'Top Of The Pell' Tours Offered For 50th Celebration
The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority will offer a limited number of tours to the top of the Newport bridge for its 50th birthday.
NEWPORT, RI — Have you ever wished you could see Newport from the top of the world? No could be your chance. In honor of its 50th anniversary, the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority is offered a limited number of tours to the top of the Pell Bridge in Newport.
June 28 marks the 50th anniversary of the bridge's opening day. To commemorate the milestone, the RITBA will be hosting a series of celebrations, including a celebration at Fort Adams State Park, a re-dedication ceremony and more.
The RITBA will be giving out a limited number of "Top of the Tower" tours, which will give participants the opportunity to see Aquidneck Island from the top of the bridge's tower. Tour tickets will be distributed to local organizations.

"We envision the chosen organizations raffling off the packages as an auction item at one of their fundraisers generating a substantial donation to be used in accomplishing the organization's mission," RITBA said on their website.

On June 28, a community fireworks celebration will be held at Fort Adams state park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The celebration will include local food trucks, a performance by the Take It To The Bridge band and fireworks. In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled to June 30.
Ahead of the anniversary, the RITBA is asking anyone who worked on the bridge's construction from 1966 to 1969 to reach out so they can be included in a special recognition event.
