Face coverings will be required at the popular Newport tourist destination until further notice.
NEWPORT, RI — The City of Newport is asking all residents to wear masks while walking the Cliff Walk. The decision was made to help slow the spread of the coronavirus on the popular attraction.
The Cliff Walk is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state, drawing more than one million people per year.
The announcement comes after parking was restricted along the trail in an effort to reduce crowding.

The mask order will remain in effect until further notice. Newport police will conduct spot-check to ensure compliance. Social distancing requirements must be followed when walking the trail, as well. Groups of five or more are not allowed, and everyone is asked to stay at least 6 feet away from others.
At this time, the city does not plan to close the Cliff Walk, but further action may be required if these orders are not followed, officials said in a statement.
