At the end of tonight's City Council meeting, as the Chairman of the Council and Mayor of Newport. The remaining councilors will then hold an election between the at-large councils to decide who will serve in his place for the remaining term of office. The term will end on Jan. 23, 2013. Last week, Waluk announced that he would be resigning from his position during Wednesday's City Council meeting. "Unfortunately I am prohibited from holding elected office once I begin my new position with the Rhode Island District Court," Waluk wrote in a letter to the City Clerk. Waluk will be for the Rhode Island District Court. The council meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
