Nasty Storm Coming: When It Will Hit Rhode Island

A storm bringing heavy rain will roll into Rhode Island this weekend. Here's when it will hit, and how much rain to expect.

NEWPORT, RI — The remnants of Tropical Storm Olga will move through New England starting on Sunday morning, bringing lots of rain, especially to parts of southern Rhode Island.

Olga, which formed over the Gulf of Mexico, could drop as much as 1-1/2 inches of rain on Rhode Island by the end of Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. The rain will start around 10 a.m., and will be heaviest in the afternoon hours.

Winds won't be a problem with the storm. But the weather services is warning of possible fog. Temperatures will be in the low 60s. Here's the full forecast for Sunday:

Sunday: Rain, mainly after 10am. The rain could be heavy at times. Patchy fog after 3pm. High near 60. Southeast wind 10 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Sunday Night: Rain before 9pm, then a chance of showers between 9pm and 1am. The rain could be heavy at times. Patchy fog before 9pm. Low around 50. Southeast wind 8 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
