New Half Marathon Nov. 2 To Benefit Local Youth Running Organizations

The Narragansett Running Association introduces the inaugural Gansett Half Marathon, to be held Nov. 2 in Narragansett, RI.

The inaugural Gansett Half Marathon will be held on November 2, 2014 at 11am in Narragansett, RI. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Narragansett Summer Youth Track Series and the Narragansett High School boys and girls track and field teams.

The superb UASTF-certified course was thoughtfully designed with the athlete in mind, and showcases some of the best of Narragansett: beautiful beaches, ocean views, the Point Judith Lighthouse, and the famous Narragansett Towers (which the runners pass under twice). The race host is the Village Inn Hotel, 1 Beach St., Narragansett, Rhode Island.

For runners targeting a November or December full marathon, Gansett will serve as a great tuneup race, allowing you to practice your race pace on a fully supported run, with plenty of water and fuel available, the company of other runners, and a pacer if you want one.

With an 11am start, even runners traveling from out of town can get a little more shut-eye before hitting the road on race morning. And with the summer crowds long departed, getting in and out of town will be hassle-free.

The late-morning early November start also makes ideal temperatures likely, and runners will find the course generally flat and fast, which makes the Gansett Half an ideal “PR” race. Experienced runners from the Narragansett Running Association will serve as race-day pacers, for those looking to hit a specific time goal.

As you complete your 13.1-mile journey, you’ll be treated to a lovely ocean view and a flat stretch of road along the Narragansett seawall - ideal conditions for a strong, fast finish. The finish area is very spectator-friendly, with a large grassy park where your friends and family can gather and capture great photos of your triumphant finish, with the ocean as a backdrop.

Two videos afford you some great insight into the course – one that previews the full 13.1-miles, and also an aerial view of one of the most scenic stretches of the course that runners will pass along twice.

Long-sleeved tshirt guaranteed to the first 300 registered runners.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place man and woman, and awards will be given to the top three male/females in the following age categories: 18 and under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. (No duplicates).

Team awards will also be given to the top two teams in three categories – male, female, and mixed. Team scoring is cross-country style, and teams should sign up on race day.

Both miles and half miles will be marked. Runners will pass fluid stations six times and POWER GEL will be available after mile 7. Both water and electrolyte drink will be available at each station.
