Newport Anti-Casino Group Says They'll Remain Engaged after Newport Grand Sale
Citizens Concerned Against Casino Gambling have responded to the announcement that Newport Grand will be sold to Twin River.

The Newport anti-casino group that led a successful campaign for voters to reject ballot questions that would have expanded casino gambling at the Newport Grand slot parlor last year has responded to Wednesday’s announcement that Newport Grand is being sold to the owners of the Twin River casino.
“We note that Twin River Management Group stated they will not pursue a ballot measure in the 2016 election cycle. However, we will remain active and engaged to ensure that they honor their pledge to our community,” said CCACG President Liz Taber. “We will also continue to work to promote policies to help small businesses and support sustainable economic development projects.”
Former Providence Mayor and developer and investor Joseph R. Paolino Jr., along with business partner Paul Roiff, entered into a purchase and sales agreement with longtime owner Diane Hurley to buy Newport Grand just recently.

Now, Paolino and Roiff have agreed to sell that p&s to Twin River Management Group for an undisclosed sum.
Taber said the group’s next meeting will be held on March 7 at the Newport Public Library at 10 a.m.
