NEWPORT, RI — The newest addition to Aquidneck Park may look like a children's playground, but this equipment is for adults. Newport's FitLot officially opened to the public on Thursday, offering residents the opportunity to work out without a traditional gym.

The FitLot is located just yards away from the Edward King House Senior Center and was built thanks to a grant secured by AARP. The organization is looking to make the city more age-friendly, including allowing seniors access to fitness equipment.

AARP and city officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday to officially open the space the the public.
