NEWPORT, RI — The northbound lane of Harrison Avenue between the Fort Adams entrance to the intersection of Beacon Hill Road at Harrison Avenue will be closed to motor vehicle traffic Friday through Sunday for the Newport Folk Festival.
"Only bicycles will be allowed in that section of the road," the police department said in a media release.
"Motor vehicle traffic in that section will only be allowed in the southbound lane going toward Fort Adams," according to the release. "This will result in heavy traffic for the area."

The lane closure will last until about 9 p.m. each night.
"If you need to get to the southern end of Harrison Avenue past Fort Adams, it is suggested you seek an alternate route of Ocean Avenue from Bellevue Avenue," the release said.

"Vehicles typically begin exiting Fort Adams around 7:30 p.m.," according to the release. "Heavy traffic is expected on Harrison Avenue, Ruggles Avenue, Bellevue Avenue, Narragansett Avenue, Coggeshall Avenue, Annandale Road, Memorial Boulevard and in the downtown area. "
