Newport In Running for USA Today "Best Destinations for History Buffs" List
Newport is not in the top 10, which is unfortunate, but there's still time to vote it up.

Newport really shines during prime tourist season in the summer, but there’s a reason you’ll see tourists walking about the city’s historic streets year-round.
The City-by-the-Sea is an historic marvel with oodles to explore; Newport boats the highest number of surviving colonial buildings in the entire country. It has Gilded Age mansions, Victorian splendor, ties to the Revolutionary War and the Newport Tower that some believe was built centuries ago, long before Columbus set foot on anything close to American shores (but carbon dating in 1993 pegged the date of construction between 1635 and 1698).
There’s history around every corner here, so it’s no surprise that the city is in the running for USA Today’s “Best Destination for History Buffs” top 10 list.
