Newport To Welcome Delegation From Irish Sister City
A public celebration will be held on March 12 to welcome the visiting delegation from Kinsale, Ireland.
NEWPORT, RI — The public welcome reception for the delegation visiting Newport from Ireland has been rescheduled. Originally planned for Tuesday, the event will now be held on Thursday evening.
The delegation from Kinsale, Ireland will visit in time for the annual St. Patrick's Day parade, celebrating Newport's sister relationship with the Irish city.
The reception, hosted by Mayor Jamie Bova and the City Council will host the welcome reception on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Edward King House. Light refreshments will be served and the public is invited to officially kick off Newport's St. Patrick's Day celebrations.

Along with the parade, the delegation will also take part in the Newport Kinsale Chef Exchange, a celebration of the two coastal cities through food, as well as attend the City Council meeting on Wednesday and tour Innovate Newport.
This year's celebration marks the 21st anniversary of Newport's partnership with Kinsale, a coastal fishing city in County Cork. Kinsale is one of Newport's six sister cities, which also include Shimoda, Japan; Imperia, Italy; Ponta Delgada, the Azores; Skiathos, Greece; and St. John, New Brunswick Canada.
