West Nile Virus Turns Up In 4 More Rhode Island Towns (patch.com) — Mosquitoes in Newport have tested positive for West Nile virus, keeping Rhode Island's risk level at "high" statewide and signaling residents should stay vigilant about bites. Health officials say about one in five infected people develop fever and other symptoms, and there's no vaccine, so using repellent, removing standing water, and taking basic precautions is especially important right now.

3. 2026 Broadway Street Fair Returns Oct. 10, 2026 (newportthisweek.com) — Broadway will turn into a pedestrian-only festival zone on Saturday, Oct. 10, when Newport's 9th annual Broadway Street Fair brings more than 200 vendors, multiple music stages, and headliner Danny Kortchmar & The Back Burners. Expect activities from Equality Park to Washington Square, kids' attractions, a beer garden, and an after-party, with officials urging residents to walk, bike, or bus because Broadway parking will be closed 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

USA meets Switzerland at Glen Farm on Saturday in the season's last international match (whatsupnewp.com) — Team USA will face Switzerland at 4 p.m. Saturday at BD Field at Glen Farm in Newport Polo's final international match of its 150th anniversary season. Gates open at noon with vendors, exhibitions, an Alpine picnic-themed sideline contest, show kites from Newport Kites, and post-match autographs, giving local fans a full afternoon of activities before the season-ending Turkish Airlines Finals on Sept. 26.

Maine-built Hood 42 named best new boat at the Newport International Boat Show (whatsupnewp.com) — A Maine-built Hood 42 has been named best new boat overall at the Newport International Boat Show's Newport for New Products awards, highlighting the prominence of this waterfront event in Newport. Judges from major boating magazines also honored several other powerboats, sailboats, and marine products, with the show continuing through Sunday and drawing industry attention to the city's harbor.
