Photos: Stylish Protest Saturday To 'Save The Breakers'
It's not every day one sees an expert on urban landscape dressed in tails lead a protest at a Newport mansion, but it happened Saturday.

NEWPORT, RI — Ron Fleming, a former trustee of the Preservation Society of Newport County, and some visitors organized a stylish protest Saturday outside The Breakers. Fleming and the others are unhappy about a construction project underway to build a Welcome Center on the property's grounds. They're not against a Welcome Center, they say. They just think it should be built across the street on property that's not a National Historic Landmark. Fleming's side may have lost the court battle, but they won the fashion war Saturday. (He was dressed in tails after attending a funeral earlier at Salve.) Most of the protestors said they were from New York.

During the protest John Rodman, the director of museum experience, and other staff members went out and observed the protestors. Several Preservation Society employees and others took photographs. Rodman also took some pictures for tourists who asked him to oblige.
