Pic of the Day: Sunset Over Newport

Goat Island resident Lena Bottos was on her way home when she came face to face with this golden gloriousness in Newport.

Lena Bottos was heading home after dinner with her dad Tuesday night.

Home is on Goat Island, a small island that is part of Newport and linked to the city’s Easton’s Point neighborhood by a causeway, so you can imagine what a ride to and from home is like for Bottos on a regular day.

On this evening, “the sun was just in a spectacular spot as we were heading back over the bridge,” Botos said. “We literally stopped the car in the middle of the road to get out and take a photo with my phone.”

In the photo, you can see Goat Island Light at the foot of the Hyatt Regency Newport hotel. The arch of the Claiborne Pell Bridge, commonly referred to as the Newport Bridge, cuts through the mast of a sailboat and the setting sun’s beams shoot up and out like the cautionary glare of the lighthouse below.

The photo was taken with a cell phone.

“We are so lucky to have such spectacular views around us every day in Newport!” Bottos said.
