Prepared Sandwiches Recalled For Listeria Risk

Several brands of prepared chicken salad sandwiches and other products are included in the recall.

Several brands of prepared salads have been recalled due to possible listeria contamination, the Rhode Island Department of Health said in a release. Brands connected to the E.A. Sween Company are included in the recall.

Listeria monocytogenesis is an organism that can cause serious or even fatal infections, especially in elderly people, young children, pregnant women or anyone with a weakened immune system. Infections in otherwise healthy people will usually cause short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarhhea, the department said.

The recall covers several brands, including Deli Express, Market Sandwich, Market Artisan, Archer Farms, Good to Go and Kum and Go, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It comes from the companies' supplier, Tip Top Poultry, which provides ingredients for chicken salad products and burritos.
