NEWPORT, RI — It was an unexpected weekend in Rhode Island, with sunny skies and summerlike weather, and an unexpected earthquake that shook the state Sunday morning. According to the National Weather Service, the region is on track to smash previous four-day high temperature records, with several days well over 70 degrees.

The previous record for Nov. 6 in Providence was 74 degrees, set in 1938. Saturday smashed that record, topping out at 76 degrees. Providence broke Sunday's previous record of 73 degrees, set in 1945, when it reached 75 degrees at 1:36 p.m.

Across the region, the record for the highest number of consecutive days above 70 degrees is four days. Both Boston and Hartford are on the cusp of breaking that record, with Providence and Worcester not far behind.
