Saturday Noon: Protest At The Breakers

Preservationists are not giving up the fight against the Welcome Center at The Breakers.

NEWPORT, RI — Preservationists and residents against the construction of a Welcome Center on the grounds of The Breakers are not giving up their fight. On Saturday at noon, they plan a demonstration. Writer, lecturer, historian, and activist Michael Henry Adams is leading the protest.

“The Breakers was carefully designed and is an important symbol of our country’s Gilded Age. Our group knows that this property is a unique landmark and we’re raising our voices to keep it intact,” said Adams. “This is not just a Newport issue. We’re joining preservation experts and people from across the country who have voiced their opposition to this destructive visitor center plan.”
