Want Info on Newport Parks and Open Spaces? There's an App for That!
The Newport Parks and Open Spaces app is live in the app store.
Ever wish there was a complete list of every city park, playground, open space and historical cemetery in Newport? Curious about the parks you do frequent? If so, you might be interested in a new app for download in the Apple App and Google Play Stores.
It’s called Newport Park Explorer and it’s the newest initiative launched by the city’s Department of Public Services, Buildings and Grounds.
“For a family looking for the perfect park to hold a picnic, to an avid historian on a quest to track down iconic gravestones, the Parks and Open Spaces app is a resource that allows residents and tourists alike the opportunity to explore Newport in a new and exciting way,” a city news release stated.

With geo-locating services within the app, an interactive map offers exact coordinates for the nearest park or cemetery.
Users can search for a specific type of park amenity, like baseball, bird watching, or the beach Tap on a park and see a picture and get some historical information.

If you’d like to try out the program, head over to the iApple App Store if you have an iPhone or the Google Play Store for Android devices.
The city’s building and grounds division also announced Mondahy that it has enhanced its website presence at www.engagenewport.com/openspace.
“This new web presence will let visitors explore detailed information on parks and open space, historic cemeteries, programs and events,” the city said in a release.
