Winter Life of Mammals Program Thursday Night

Find out how local mammals survive the harsh winter months with a lecture and short hike at the Norman Bird Sanctuary!

As the days are getting shorter, the temperature is dropping. Many birds and insects are heading for warmer climates, but what are our local mammals doing over the next few months? Join us for a look into the “secret” winter life of mammals. This program will include a lecture discussing local mammals’ physical and behavioral adaptations necessary for life in the cold, as well as a short walk to comb our winter habitat for signs of mammalian activity.

Mark Pagliarini, Lead Teacher/Naturalist at NBS, is interested in a variety of vertebrates as well as insects. Prior to his time at NBS, he studied Animal Science at URI and has 10 years of experience with Roger Williams Park Zoo.
