<h2>Calling all witches, goblins, ghouls—and yes, even their costumed pets! Join The Kayak Centre  for a spooktacular paddle around Wickford Harbor filled with frightful fun and a costume contest as we raise money for the <a href="https://www.nkfoodpantry.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">North Kingstown Food Pantry</a> on Sunday, October 25.This is a BYO-boat/board (bring your own, no rentals)  event. A Personal Flotation Device (PFD) is mandatory for all participants. The annual Witches Paddle welcomes all kayaks, paddle boards, canoes and pedal kayaks. Let’s make a difference together!</h2>
<h2>A few details<ul><li>Launch Point: Gardner's Wharf Launch, 170 Main Street, Wickford</li><li>Registration Fee: $25 per paddler (online registration required; registration closes night before the paddle) 100% of registration fees benefit the North Kingstown Food Pantry, </li><li>Check-In &amp; Bibs at launch point: Check-in and bib pickup from 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM</li><li>Spectator Viewing: Best viewed from the Wickford Town Dock across from The Kayak Centre and donations welcomed from non-paddlers too!</li></ul></h2>

Celebrate autumn on Aquidneck Island with a free, family-friendly outdoor cultural celebration! The 2nd Annual Japan-America Friendship Festival returns to historic Touro Park in Newport on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Hosted by the Japan-America Society of Southern New England, Inc. (JASNE), this open-air festival honors the long-standing Newport-Shimoda Sister City connection and local heritage dating back to Commodore Matthew C. Perry’s historic 1854 expedition.
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS:
<ul>
 <li>Live Performances:
 Thunderous taiko drum sets and dynamic martial arts demonstrations throughout the day.</li>
 <li>History Tent: Explore fascinating maritime history and trade connections in partnership with the Whitfield-Manjiro Friendship Society, New Bedford Whaling Museum, Wareham Historical Society, and Five College Center for East Asian Studies.</li>
 <li>Youth Crafts Pavilion:
 Hands-on origami paper-folding, traditional brush calligraphy, kite-making, and a popular Kimono photo station.</li>
 <li>Cosplay Parade &amp; Contest:
 The 2nd Annual Cosplay Parade kicks off at 12:30 PM (assembly at 12:15 PM under the tent next to the Commodore Perry Statue). Costumed participants of all ages—and pets—are welcome!</li>
 <li>Food &amp; Artisan Market:
 Taste authentic Japanese-inspired street food from regional vendors and browse handcrafted items from local artisans.</li>

2nd Annual Japan-America Friendship Festival is Back in Newport!

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Get your running shoes and lederhosen ready! The annual OktoberVets 5K and German Festival is officially coming to town on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Proudly sponsored by the North Kingstown VFW Post 152, this highly anticipated community event combines fitness, culture, and a deep appreciation for our local veterans.
Since 2017, VFW Post 152 has hosted this premier fundraising event to support its vital community work. As an official non-profit organization, 100% of the race entry fees go directly toward funding critical veteran advocacy, assistance programs, and outreach initiatives managed by the post. Now in its ninth year, the event has become a staple of Rhode Island's autumn calendar, turning miles into meaningful support for those who served.
The festivities kick off sharply at 10:00 AM. Runners, walkers, and strollers are all welcome on the scenic 5K course, making it a fully accessible event for competitive athletes and families alike. Participants will wind through the historic heart of Wickford Village, enjoying beautiful waterfront views and colonial charm along the way. All registered participants will receive excellent race swag, including an official event t-shirt and a custom finisher medal.
Immediately following the race, the celebration shifts gears into a lively, family-friendly German Festival. Attendees can look forward to an authentic celebration featuring a festive local beer garden and grilled bratwurst served up directly by the VFW crew.
Whether you are looking to set a new personal record on the pavement, earn some great new race gear, or simply enjoy a festive autumn day by the water with great food, the OktoberVets 5K and German Festival has something for everyone.
