Brad, 33, and Cherilynn, 38, were transported to Rhode Island Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
“We thank you for your love and prayers,” the family statement read. “We cannot even begin to express the heartache and pain our family is feeling and we ask for the respect of our privacy as we process this devastating time in our lives.”
Family members said that the Tortis were active in the community. Cherilyn was a graduate of the Community College of Rhode Island Nursing Program and worked at the VA hospital in Providence before having a family. Brad worked at Electric Boat.
The children — a 19-year-old and two sets of twins, are under the care of a grandmother.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help the family.
