People are more likely to walk if the places they live and the places they need to go – shops, town offices and libraries, schools, community centers and parks – are located in compact centers where walking is both enjoyable and convenient. To be successful, both revitalization and new development of existing centers must be carefully planned. How can we encourage growth in our historic town and village centers at a scale that complements and enhances their physical character? What do we need to think about when contemplating an area for new development? Workshop leader: Donald Powers, Architect
