A Family Remembers Its Rascal, 'Comic Teddy Bear'

Family and friends mourn the passing of 19-year-old Jordan Nonnenmacher.

An overflow crowd, including many classmates from the North Kingstown High School class of 2011, attended the memorial service for Jordan Nonnenmacher at the Nardolillo Funeral Home in Narragansett Friday evening.

Before the service mourners viewed a video showing Jordan’s daring
skateboard moves and a collage of photos. The friends and family who lined up to pay their respects to Jordan’s parents Mario and Julie and siblings Derek and Taylor also passed several posters with pictures, memorabilia and notes that Jordan had written over the years.

The Rev. Donald C. Anderson said portrayed Jordan, who was 19, as an active, humorous, good-hearted “rascal” who was wielding a computer mouse at age 2. Jordan was studying graphic design at CCRI at the time of his death.

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “A Simple Man” provided the music for the service.

Mario Nonnenmacher thanked the rescue personnel who treated his son at the scene of his fatal one-car May 26 on Hamilton Allenton Road.

He also read a note, “Just,” that Jordan had written thanking his father for all that he did for him, including trips to a favorite local restaurant, Burger King. Mario urged families never to take each other for granted.

Jordan's older brother Derek spoke about how connected he remained to his brother even though they were both busy with separate lives. Derek said he had lost a silver ring two weeks before his brother’s accident and had searched unsuccessfully for it everywhere. But, when he arrived at the hospital after Jordan’s accident, he found the ring on his brother’s finger.

He said he will treasure his brother and their relationship for the rest of his life.

Julie Nonnenmacher called her youngest son the family’s comic teddy bear and thanked all his friends for their support.

Interment will be private.
