Governor Carcieri Moves To Saunderstown

Governor Donald Carcieri and wife Suzanne moved from their home in East Greenwich to Saunderstown earlier this week.

Longtime East Greenwich townie and Rhode Island Gov. Donald Carcieri may be in office for a few more weeks, but he's no longer an East Greenwich resident. He and wife Suzanne have moved from their hometown to live in their waterfront house in Saunderstown.

Donald and Suzanne Carcieri sold their 4.6-acre lot and 4,416-square-foot house at 50 Kenyon Drive to East Greenwich businessman and family friend Michael DellaGrotta and his wife Kristin for $1.25 million, according to a deed transfer filed with the East Greenwich Town Clerk's office Tuesday.

The Carcieris will be moving into their house at 115 Cottrell Road in Saunderstown, according to Amy Kempe, the governor's media liaison. Carcieri could not be reached for comment, Kempe said.

The house in Saunderstown — a 3,217-square-foot house on six waterfront acres — will be "a lot easier to accomodate the kids and the grandkids," Kempe said. They bought the Saunderstown property in 1992 for $775,000. In 2010 it was assessed for $1,647,400.

Both Donald and Suzanne Carcieri grew up in East Greenwich, and raised their children in town. On Veterans' Day, Suzannie said the couple has lived in the town for most of their lives. Before moving to Kenyon Drive, they lived in several different homes in the Hill and Harbour district — on Pearl Street, Division Street and Marion Street.

They bought the property on Kenyon Drive in 1998 for $372,500. It was three vacant lots, just behind their former home on Division Street. The Carcieris still own a house at 83 Friendship St.
