Hatchery Road Fire Displaces Two Residents

Two firefighters were transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

Two people have lost their home and two firefighters were transported to South County Hospital for minor injuries after a fire engulfed a Hatchery Road home early Saturday morning.

Members of the North Kingstown Fire Department responded to the blaze at 230 Hatchery Road at around 4:55 a.m., firefighters said.

The fire started on the second floor and appears to have been started by someone smoking in a bedroom, the fire chief said.

The fire took two hours to put out and North Kingstown was assisted by Exeter and East Greenwich firefighters.

The two injured firefighters suffered minor injuries.

The house, which was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, has been condemned.

The 1,248 square foot home was built in 1954 and is owned by Eleanor and Albert Bapties, according to town records.
