Wickford Little League is hosting the "Julie Maloney Midsummer Classic" Baseball Skills Competition and WLL All-Star Game on Saturday May 31st. Rain date is Sunday, June 1st. The skills competition kicks off at 2pm at Wilson Park. Players of all levels from AA to AAA to Majors are eligible. The sign-up sheets for the skills competition are available in the concession stand. In addition, hats and socks are available for purchase at the concession stands during games with all net proceeds going to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Julie Maloney's name. My son's coach sent out an email with the information so if you are a WLL parent, you may have this information in your email inbox. The skills competitions includes:
- Throwing- can you make the throw from deep in the hole with the game on the line? Can you throw out a runner going first to third to end the game?
- Bunting-can you sacrifice a runner over when your team needs you?
- Hitting- can you hit opposite field when they pitch you away?
- Pitching- can you throw 3 strikes in a row with the game on the line?
- Running-can you score from 2nd on a single when your team needs a run?
The skills competition will have individual skill winners as well as overall skill winners. There will be a 50/50 raffle going on all day as well. This is a fun and exciting competition every year and the crowd is filled with kids and parents cheering everyone on. It is by far one of the coolest days on the Wickford Little League schedule. Fee is $20/player and the player receives a commemorative hat and socks.
The All-Star Game will begin at 6:30. Players voted to the All-Star Game will be voted in by their own teammates. The Midsummer Classic "All Star" game will be a 6 inning interleague exhibition game of the best and brightest stars of WLL.

In addition, donations are welcome. If you are unfamiliar with the work at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, you can visit their website at www.dana-farber.org. If you are a parent, grandparent, or friend of a Wickford Little League player, plan on attending this great event. It will be a memorable day of great baseball and a great community event to honor a dedicated parent of Wickford Little League for many years, Julie Maloney.
