Letter: Can Government do More to Help Business Community?

By Ellen Waxman

Wilson's of Wickford opened their doors 70 years ago. Some consider them to be a landmark, drawing shoppers from around New England for their exceptional quality clothing. This store, like many others around the state, have been struggling for some time. If shop owners adjust with the times and reinvent how they do business, is that enough? What can our local and state government do to make it easier to do business here in Rhode Island?

Change is in the air... We can make it better!  In November we'll have an opportunity to elect new leaders, people with vision, passion and dedication to lead Rhode Island towards a brighter future. Improving business regulations and the permitting process could help attract new businesses and retain existing businesses. I hope to be involved with this, as I am running for a seat on the North Kingstown Town Council.

You and I can help our businesses by keeping our spending local, and let's invite our out of town friends to shop here, and experience beautiful North Kingstown!

The Wilson family has a long history of giving to the community... Because of their generosity with our local sports teams, the ball field at Wilson Park is named after them. You can read about their situation here... https://www.crowdtilt.com/campaigns/help-save-wilsons-of-wickford
