Letter: Liz Dolan Served NK Well

Whether or not you've agreed with her, Dolan "deserves our gratitude" for her service, writes candidate Ellen Waxman.

To the editor:

I would like to tip my hat to outgoing North Kingstown Town Council President Liz Dolan. She has served our Town since 2002, elected six times by the voters of North Kingstown. She deserves much credit for leading North Kingstown in a way that the Town can be proud of.

While Liz has been in office, North Kingstown has maintained its reputation for having top notch schools, safe neighborhoods, a world class port, historically preserved villages, working farms, boating facilities, a thriving art community, and much more.

As there have been lengthy and costly battles in North Kingstown involving powerful stakeholders with differing views. I can imagine how difficult it has been for our current Town Council to maintain a steady course for the Town.

Whether or not you’ve agreed with the decisions Liz and the others have made these past years, they deserve our gratitude for sacrificing time away from their families, and for their best effort to help North Kingstown.

On a personal note, as I became more involved with the North Kingstown Economic Development Advisory Board, Liz was a helpful mentor. She has been very encouraging, and once expressed “We need women like you on the Town Council”

Well Liz... It just may happen. As a concerned citizen and business owner, I decided to run for for Town Council because I have many ideas, and a strong desire to improve the economic vitality of North Kingstown, and all of Rhode Island.

If elected, I will do my best to make decisions that are in the best interest of the community-at-large. Community input is vital to the process, and as a first step to open communication, I’ve established a community page on Facebook called, Our Town: North Kingstown. ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/OurNK ) It’s a public forum, a voice for those who want to see North Kingstown maximize its full potential as a vibrant community where we all can live, work, and enjoy.

I hope you will join the conversation on Our Town: North Kingstown. If we work together, and combine our knowledge, creativity, and energy, the possibilities are endless. Together we can make North Kingstown even better!

Sincerely,

Ellen Waxman
Candidate for North Kingstown Town Council
