Local Women Lead All-American Lacrosse Team to Final Four

Seven local lacrosse players, including one from North Kingstown, led the 2011 New England Girls High School Underclassmen All-American team to the Final Four of the Brine National Lacrosse Classic.

Seven local lacrosse players, including one from North Kingstown, led the 2011 New England Girls High School Underclassmen All-American team to the Final Four of the Brine National Lacrosse Classic last week. 

Falynn McCartney, from North Kingstown, joined teammates Caitlin Villareal (Portsmouth), Oona Pritchard (Middletown), Hailey Novis (Jamestown), Sarah Young (Portsmouth), Jackie Hagopian (Wakefield) and Maddy Blackburn (Portsmouth) in coming within one win of the national championship game.

The New England team, coached by Bill Villareal of the Team Real Lacrosse Club in Portsmouth, recorded wins against teams from Pennsylvania, Michigan, Washington, D.C., and Long Island as they worked their way to their semi-final showdown against Maryland.

Although the New England team lost to Maryland, these local athletes represented the New England region, demonstrating good sportsmanship and character throughout the entire tournament, according to Villareal.

The Brine National Lacrosse Classic was held in Maryland from July 5 to 8 to showcase the top lacrosse athletes selected from regional tryouts throughout the country.
