NK, EG Shell Stations Robbed; Suspects at Large

Police are calling the incident, which took place at around 5 a.m. Monday, a "strong-arm robbery."


A cashier at the East Side Food Mart Shell at 2563 South County Trail in East Greenwich was held up at around 5 a.m. Monday, police report. At around 11 p.m. Sunday, another Shell Station in North Kingstown was also held up.

The suspect walked into the EG store and handed the cashier a note that demanded cash, according to Det. Lieutenant Jay Fague. "He did not speak a word. He was in and out in a couple of minutes."

Fague called it a strong-arm robbery – no weapon was shown but the suspect had a hand in one of his pockets as if armed.

The person was so covered that it wasn't completely clear it was a man, although the cashier said she thought so based on the suspect's eyes. Police are describing the suspect as "an unknown male."

"He was covered in an oversized hooded sweatshirt," Fague said, with only a hand and part of the face showing.

Fague said the man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was last seen on foot going in the direction of Frenchtown Road.

He said it was not clear whether or not the man parked somewhere and walked to the mini-mart. 

In North Kingstown, the Shell Station at the intersection of Tower Hill Road and Ten Rod Road was held up around 11 p.m. the night prior. According to reports, the store was robbed and the suspect, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, gave the clerk a note to hand over money. No weapon was shown and the suspect left, heading south on Tower Hill Road.

Both incidents are still under investigation.
