A North Kingstown EMT's license was suspended last week by the state Department of Health following his plea of no contest to a pair of felony assault charges.
Mark S. Alves, an EMT for the town, pleaded no contest to the charges of assault and simple assault on March 19 and was handed a 10-year suspended sentence on April 9. He was also sentenced to 10 years of probation and placed on a year of home confinement.
The health department said the suspension will last indefinitely.
