NK Man Arrested After Allegedly Sexually Assaulting Woman On SK Bike Path

SKPD are holding a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman.

A North Kingstown man was arrested over the weekend and charged with sexually assaulting a South Kingstown woman.

Calin Otis, 26, of 41 Dayton Court in North Kingstown was arrested on Saturday, May 28 around 12:47 a.m. after South Kingstown Police officers investigating the assault found him walking on High Street.  The victim of the assault was able to identify him and he was taken into custody.

On Friday, May 27 around 11:47 p.m. police were called to a residence in South Kingstown to speak with a 25-year-old female who stated that sometime between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. a heavily tattooed black man, previously unknown to her, had assaulted her on the bike path.

According to the victim she and the alleged assailant met earlier in the day and took a walk on the bike path.  During the encounter the male subject allegedly fondled the victim and later coerced her into having sex with him after threatening her life. 

The victim remained with the assailant after the encounter ended, walking to Patsy’s Package Store.  It was then that the victim left Otis’ side and called police after consulting several acquaintances.  Police officers met with the victim to take statements and gather evidence pertaining to the assault.

The victim was transported to South County Hospital, but while en route the officer located a man matching the description of the assailant from the victim’s report to the police just after midnight.  The subject was positively identified as Otis through a distinct tattoo of a fetus on his forearm indicated by the victim and taken into custody.  The victim was taken to South County Hospital for an examination. 

Otis was processed at SKPD, and made a statement of his own with detectives.  He was charged with one count of first degree sexual assault and a second charge of second-degree sexual assault, both felonies. He was then transported to the ACI.
