NK Man Found Guilty of Raping Coventry Girl

The jury returned the verdict in two-and-a-half-hours.

A jury in Kent County Superior Court found 42-year-old Stephen Mulcahey of North Kingstown guilty of one count of first-degree rape on Monday.

The verdict was returned in two-and-a-half hours after a four day trial presided over by Superior Court Justice Brian P. Stern.

During the trail, the prosecution presented evidence in support of their case against Mulchaey, who was accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in Coventry.

The girl reported the incident to trusted adults the day after the assault, which occurred on Oct. 27 of 2013.

The adults then filed a complaint with the Coventry Police Department.

Mulchahey has been held without bail since his Oct. 31 2013 arrest.

He is due to be sentenced in May of this year.

In an unrelated case, Mulchaey is awaiting trial for charges of possession of child pornography.

Coventry Police Detective Jason Burlingame led the investigation. Special Assistant Attorney General Meghan McDonough prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
