EG Man Charged With Shoplifting From Stop & Shop
Garrick Douglas Wann, 26, of 9 Bayberry Ln. in East Greenwich was arrested April 27 at 4:50 p.m. on charges of shoplifting.
Wann was shopping at the Stop & Shop on Frenchtown Road when employees at the store noticed him acting suspiciously. Wann went up to the self checkout register with a carriage full of higher priced items, including batteries and health/beauty products, and was met by an employee who offered to help him bag his purchases. Halfway through, Wann allegedly asked the employee to void the transaction as he had forgotten something.

Suspecting that Wann was trying to leave the store through a different exit, a manager waited outside the store and confronted Wann as he allegedly left the store without paying. According to reports, Wann left the carriage and ran toward Wendy’s restaurant. An employee followed him to the store and saw him enter, then exit and remove his orange shirt before fleeing in his car.
Police stopped Wann shortly thereafter on Post Road and arrested him on charges of shoplifting. The total value of the items Wann attempted to steal was around $533. After officers read Wann his Miranda Rights, he allegedly admitted to shoplifting.

NK Man Charged With Second DUI
James M. Thacker, 26, of 9 Hornet Rd. in North Kingstown was arrested May 4 at 12:34 a.m. on charges of drunken driving and cited for refusing to submit toe a chemical test.
Police initially pulled Thacker over on Tower Hill Road after clocking him at 92 mph in a 50 mph zone. Thacker was allegedly aware that he was over the speed limit, telling the officer that he knew he was driving “very fast.” The arresting officer noted that Thacker smelled of alcohol and asked him how much he had drank that night. He then became upset and allegedly told the officer, “I’m [expletive]. This is my third one. I’ve already had two DUIs.” (Online records show Thacker was charged with a DWI charged in 2005 and a DUI charge in 2009.)
Thacker told the officer that he had four vodka and orange juice drinks prior to driving, adding that he consumed all four quickly, according to reports. He allegedly told the officer that he was going to help a family member who called him from a bar in South Kingstown.
Thacker allegedly refused to take both a field sobriety test and a breath test. He was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and taken to the North Kingstown Police Department.
