NK Police Log: Bad Luck at Two Gas Stations

Police Remove Intoxicated Man From Engine Foodlane
Police received a report of an intoxicated man causing at disturbance at Engine Foodlane around 2:30 a.m. on March 21. According to reports, residents of nearby 6101 Post Road had called police earlier in the night of someone banging on t heir doors. When police arrived at the store, they found the man outside who matched the description of the person who was banging on doors.

The man allegedly had been drinking at Kingstown Bowl earlier that night and went to the store to buy something to eat. According to the clerk, he did not have enough money to buy the items but, due to his level of intoxication, he did not understand. At that point, another customer allegedly made a comment to the man, inciting a verbal argument between the two.
Police called the 24-year-old man’s mother, who took him home.

Man Who Never Had License Allegedly Drove Into Lamppost
Paul L. Barbosa, 44, of 6 Cornell Rd. in Narragansett was arrested March 21 at 10:12 p.m. on charges of driving without a license.
Barbosa was allegedly driving drunk when he knocked over a lamppost at the Irving Gas Station on Post Road before fleeing the scene. Police found the car, which was heavily damaged, in a driveway on New Lexington. The homeowner there told police the truck belonged to her friend (whom she identified as Barbosa) who parked it there and then began walking down the street.
Police were able to reach Barbosa by phone, who allegedly told officers he was driving down Post Road when his truck slid and he “[expletive] up his truck.” He also allegedly admitted to leaving the scene of the accident.
After police checked Barbosa background, they discovered that, not only did he not have a driver’s license, but there was no record showing he had ever had one. When police arrived at his home in Narragansett, they noticed that he appeared to be intoxicated. Police asked him why he did not have a license, to which he replied that he was “planning on getting around to it.” He agreed to be transported to the North Kingstown Police Department for processing and was issued a district court summons.
