Robert J. Lawler, 59, of 84 Willow Rd. in Charlestown was arrested Oct. 13 at 8:49 p.m. on charges of driving under the influence and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

An officer posted on Quaker Lane near Ziggy’s Auto Sales clocked Lawler traveling at 65 mph in a 35 mph zone. As the officer pursued Lawler, he allegedly saw him nearly strike a traffic island at the intersection of Ten Rod Road without yielding. The officer stopped Lawler as he pulled into the parking lot at Dunkin Donuts.

According to reports, Lawler appeared to be very lethargic and told the officer he had a beer and a martini after golfing nine holes at Goddard Park.

After failing his field sobriety test, Lawler’s blood alcohol content tested at .154 in a preliminary breath test. During the test, Lawler allegedly told the officer he had been drinking while playing golf as well – having three cans of beer on the course before drinking a beer and a martini at Richard’s Pub.

At the police station, Lawler refused to take a Breathalyzer.
