Joshua R. LaLumiere, 26, of 360 Paradis Ave. in Woonsocket was arrested April 25 at 10:50 a.m. on charges of shoplifting and cited for possession of one ounce or less of marijuana.

Police received a call that two men, who were possibly intoxicated or on drugs, were leaving the Cumberland Farms in East Greenwich and heading to Quaker Lane Bait & Tackle. North Kingstown officers found the car in front of the store and discovered that one of the men was passed out in the passenger side seat. It took several attempts to wake the 34-year-old man who, when he realized he surrounded by three officers, allegedly kept repeating, “What? I’m not driving. I’m not driving.”

The officers noted that the car smelled of marijuana and that the passenger had bloodshot, watery eyes and had difficulty maintaining his balance. He allegedly told officers that he had been drinking since 5 a.m. and had smoked marijuana as well as took two Klonopin pills. His driver, LaLumiere, had picked him up as the two were planning to go fishing that morning.

LaLumiere told police he, unlike his passenger, had not been drinking: he also allegedly told police he couldn’t drink and drive because he has an ignition interlock device on his car that requires him to pass a Breathalyzer test before the car can start.

While speaking with LaLumiere, police found that he had allegedly stolen a lure from Quaker Lane Bait & Tackle and also found 1.06 grams of marijuana on him.
