Man Allegedly Calls Woman 73 Times in One Day

Francis Earl Lachappelle Jr., 48, of 23 Sagamore St. in Warwick, was arrested Aug. 24 at 12:15 p.m. on charges of making prank phone calls.

A North Kingstown woman was allegedly receiving harassing phone calls from Lachappelle and asked a friend, who also knows Lachappelle, to help resolve the issue. The friend called Lachappelle from the woman’s house and, during the call, Lachappelle allegedly threatened physical harm.

A few hours later the woman and another friend simultaneously called 911 to report that Lachappelle was sitting outside the residence in his car. Police arrived at the scene to find Lachappelle in his car. He said he was checking up on the welfare of the woman’s children.

A check of the woman’s phone records of a 20-hour period of time showed 25 calls from Lachappelle and 48 from a restricted number, which police believe is also Lachappelle’s number.

He is set to appear in Fourth District Court on Sept. 13.
