NK Police Log: Man Allegedly Tries To Steal Bicycle From Salvation Army

NK Man Allegedly Tries To Swap His Bike At Salvation Army
Kanagarayan Sandhanam, 62, of 620 Devils Foot Road Apt. 8 in North Kingstown, was arrested on August 8 at 11:59 a.m. on a charge of shoplifting.
Police responded to a call from the Salvation Army stating that there was a shoplifter detained at the store. A store employee alleged Sandhanam had stolen a bicycle and another item and that the store wanted to press charges. According to police, the employee continued to explain that Sandhanam had ridden up on his bike and parked in by the bikes that were for sale in front of the store. According to the worker, Sandhanam got onto another bike that the store was selling and rode over to a nearby store, parked it and walked back on foot. Sandhanam allegedly came back into the store and put a weight belt inside his shirt.

According to reports, when confronted about how he didn’t pay for either item, Sandhanam gave the weight belt back to the employee stating, “I don’t need this!”
The employee asked that a no-contact order also be issued to Sandhanam. Police arrested him and transported him to headquarters.

Man Arrested For Domestic Assault
Chester Hiram Carpenter, 76, of 6101 Post Road Apt. 48, was arrested on August 11 at 11:36 p.m. on charges of domestic assault and disorderly conduct.
Police responded to a phone call from Carpenter stating that a woman had beaten him up, was highly intoxicated and was sniffing gasoline in the shed. When police arrived, they found the woman exiting the shed. According to reports, she told police that Carpenter had been jealous because another man had waved at her while she was pulling into their driveway earlier that day. She also told police that Carpenter had allegedly become enraged by the incident and had slapped her three times. A witness confirmed what the victim told police.
When police spoke with Carpenter, he allegedly said that the victim had an ongoing problem with inhaling gasoline fumes. According to reports, he also told police that the victim had walked on the railroad tracks earlier in the day and he had to find her and bring her home. He reportedly said that when the victim returned home, she was angry because the gasoline was missing and had tried to beat him up.
Based on further investigation and the statement from the witness, Carpenter was arrested and transported to headquarters.
Woman Arrested Allegedly Tells Police "You Want Me To Fail" While Taking A Field Sobriety Test
Kirsten Lee Prosl, 43, of 52 Lafayette Drive in East Greenwich, was arrested on August 12 at 3:10 a.m. on charges of drunken driving. Police pulled Prosl over after noticing her car allegedly drifting in and out of the driving lanes. According to police, since Prosl appeared to be under the influence, officers asked her to take a field sobriety test.
While taking the test, Prosl allegedly said “I failed, I failed” numerous times, each time getting louder and reportedly told police “You want me to fail.” Prosl failed the test and was arrested and transported to headquarters. When police administered a breathalyzer test, her blood alcohol level was at .197 percent.
