NK Police Log: Man Offers To Do Squats During Field Sobriety Test

Bruce R. Wilkinson, 59, of 1 Chestnut Street, Apt. 802 in Providence was arrested Feb. 27 at 2:14 a.m. on charges of drunken driving and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.
Wilkinson was initially pulled over for speeding and swerving on Tower Hill Road and was pulled over on Route 138. According to reports, he told the officer he had trouble staying in the lane because he was having trouble seeing the lines due to the rainy conditions and lack of street lights.
Wilkinson allegedly told police that he had three “light” beers at Tara’s Pub earlier that evening.

At one point during his field sobriety test, Wilkinson allegedly told police he couldn’t pass the walk and turn portion of the test, but offered to do squats instead if officers allowed it. He stopped the tests halfway through because he thought they weren’t “fair.”
During his field sobriety test, Wilkinson allegedly registered a .120 percent blood alcohol level. After seeing the results, he told police he had three pints of Michelob Ultra during a card game in addition to three to four pints during the Bruins game.

He was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and brought to the North Kingstown Police Department where he refused to take a breath test.
Wallets Stolen From Hardware Store Break Room
Two employees of Salk’s Ace Hardware in North Kingstown reported that their wallets had been stolen from the store’s break room on Feb. 26. According to reports, the door was not locked and open in an area that’s accessible to customers. The employees told police that they had placed their coats over their purses before their shift and discovered that their wallets had been removed from their purses. According to the manager, the room is always open and unlocked. Following this incident, the store installed a lock on the door and intends to keep it closed and locked at all times.
Wickford Elementary Vandalized
Police received reports that Wickford Elementary School, which has been closed since 2005, had been vandalized. Officers noted that a window on the third floor of the building had been broken. No other damage was found and police were unable to locate any other suspicious activity or persons in the area. Wickford Elementary School is currently up for sale and vacant.
